News Update

  • Join us for "A Whirlwind of American Comics" by Dr. Jared Gardner, OSU Dept. of English, followed by a gallery talk by Dr. Lucy Caswell, curator of the Cartoon Library & Museum and of  the exhibit From the Yellow Kid to Conan:  American Cartoons from the International Museum of Cartoon Art.  The event takes place Tuesday, July 14, 2009, 7:00-9:00 pm at 162 Hopkins Hall, 128 North Oval Mall.  Free and open to the public.

  • Would you like to bring a group to a docent led tour of the exhibition at Hopkins Hall Gallery + Corridor?  Wexner Center docents will be leading tours of this extensive exhibit of cartoon art from the International Museum of Cartoon Art Collection, recently acquired by the Cartoon Library and Museum.

Please call (614) 292-0538 to schedule a tour.

  • Two new exhibitions at The Ohio State University celebrate the International Museum of Cartoon Art Collection, which was recently transferred to OSU's Cartoon Library and Museum (formerly the Cartoon Research Library.) The union of these two institutions created the largest collection of original cartoon art in the world. The exhibitions showcase the treasures of the collection including original art from editorial cartoons, comic strips, animation and comic books.

  • The Cartoon Library and Museum needs your support to raise funds for the renovation of Sullivant Hall, the future home of the library.  Donate to the Schulz Challenge & Cartoon Library and Museum Fund and your contribution will be matched dollar for dollar by Jean Schulz.

  • Promises to match an additional $2.5 million in a challenge to "others"

The Ohio State University received a gift of $1 million from Jean Schulz, the widow of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, to support the renovation of Sullivant Hall, the future home of the world's most comprehensive academic research facility dedicated to documenting printed cartoon art.

  • The estate of Bud Blake donated a substantial collection of his work to The Ohio State University Cartoon Library and Museum. Blake, who died at age 87 in 2005, began his career as a paste-up boy for the Kudner Advertising Agency in New York and worked his way up to Executive Director of the agency. By 1954 he was disillusioned with the corporate world, so he quit his job to become a freelance cartoonist. King Features syndicated Blake’s panel cartoon Ever Happen to You? from 1958 to 1965.

  • The Cartoon Research Library has changed its name to the Cartoon Library and Museum, which we believe better reflects our mission.  With the acquisition of the International Museum of Cartoon Art Collection, we now house more than 400,000 original works of art which we use in our active exhibition program.  Although we don't have a traditional museum space yet, we are exploring options that will allow us to expand into a new location with museum-quality galleries and additional storage for our rapidly-growing collection.
