Research Services & Fees

Fifteen minutes of research service will be provided without charge to off-site patrons. Persons and businesses who need additional research service will be billed at the following rate:

• Personal/Non-Profit: $25 per hour
• Corporate/Profit: $100 per hour

Only in exceptional circumstances will more than one hour of research be provided.

Digital Reproduction Services & Fees

Reproduction requests may be made by completing the Digital Reproduction Form and emailing it to cartoons@osu.edu or faxing to 614-292-9101

• Flatbed scanning is the preferred method for reproduction of items 12 x 17 inches (30.25 x 43 cm) or smaller, when the condition of the material material permits
• Items larger than 12 x 17 inches (30.5 x 43 cm), considered fragile, or bound in volumes, will be scanned using the Better Light 8K - large format, Enhanced Resolution™ digital photography
• The library reserves the right to refuse to copy material if it is judged that it may cause harm to the original
• Resolution will be 600ppi unless another is specified. Please note that very large image files can result when using the scanning back technology
• TIFF format will be used unless another is specified
• RGB unless CMYK or grayscale is specified
• Images are scanned from the original at 100% size unless another size is requested.
• Images will be copied to a CD-R/$2.50 or DVD/$3.00
• Images under 10 MB may be sent electronically; however, OSU policy prohibits us from electronically delivering larger images

Reproduction fees are billed in addition to any research fees.  Photocopy  requests may be made by completing the Photocopy Request Form and emailing it to cartoons@osu.edu or faxing to 614-292-9101

Color Photocopy: 8.5 x 11	$1.00 per page
Color Photocopy: 11 x 17	$2.00 per page
Slides	Price available on request
Negatives: B+W copy negative, color negative and 4 x 5 color transparency	Price available on request

Fax	No charge 1-10 pages, more than 10 pages will not be faxed.
DVD converted from VHS: up to 1 hour	$30.00

Payment Information

• Orders totaling $200 or more require half of the payment at the time the order is placed
• Credit cards are not accepted
• Checks are to be made payable to The Ohio State University
• Payment must be made in US dollars

Shipping & Handling Fees

• All shipping and handling fees will be charged to the customer
• $3 minimum charge is applied to any request
• Shipping via US mail, International Air Mail, FedEx, and UPS is available
• Customers may supply an account number for FedEx or UPS in lieu of this charge
• Standard shipping will be used unless the customer specifies speed of delivery
• Handling includes packaging costs

Commercial Use Fees

• Image requests intended for commercial use will be charged a one-time use fee of $50 per image in addition to the other costs of reproduction
• This usage fee is not a copyright fee, but a fee to reproduce the image, including public domain images, from our collections
• Revenue from this fee helps to support the mission of the Cartoon Library& Museum
• Please note that certain commercial requests (advertising, greeting cards, etc.) may be referred to the Ohio State University's Trademark and Licensing Services. When this occurs, a different fee structure will apply. Contact the library for more information.

Copyright

• Reproductions for publication or broadcast of images not in the public domain must have written evidence of permission from the copyright owner on file at the library before images will be provided
• If you are unsure about the copyright status of an image or need assistance in locating the copyright holder, please contact the Cartoon Library & Museum
• You may incur a copyright fee from the owner for reproduction rights
• Detailed information on copyright guidelines is available at Copyright Term and the Public Domain and Is it Protected by Copyright?

Credit

• Images used for reproduction, publication, broadcast, exhibition, or on the web must include proper credit which will be provided for the materials you have selected

Turnaround Time

• ORDERS FOR TEN OR MORE NEW SCANS MUST BE PLACED AT LEAST 8 WEEKS IN ADVANCE
• Orders for fewer than 10 new scans may take up to 4 weeks depending on the number of scans, resolution, and reproduction orders in progress
• Turnaround time for photocopies is 5 business days
• Turnaround time for pre-existing scans of images is 5 business days
• Turnaround time for all other reproductions is available on request. We attempt to estimate delivery time as accurately as possible, however delivery time cannot be guaranteed

Pre-existing Scans

• Pre-existing scans are images that are part of the Cartoon Library & Museum's existing digital collection, requiring no further individual scanning necessary to complete your order
• These scans are high resolution (300-600dpi), TIFF format, RGB and are copied from the original digital image at 100% size
• If you request a larger size or higher resolution, a new scan will be done and research and new scan fees will apply
• The one-time use fee may be applicable
