Light’s Color Lithography Printing Schedule.

This is Light’s printing schedule in Darrow’s hand.  From it we learn that Light’s new lead time was considerable: cartoon production began sixteen days prior to publication date.  For example, the black plate for the cartoons in the May 24th issue had a Thursday, May 8th, deadline. Colors – buff, red, blue and gray – were printed in succession the week of May 12th through the 16th one day at a time, allowing them to dry overnight.  The letterpress then took three days from May 17th through the 19th, with folding, trimming, and delivery happening on the 20th, for distribution Wednesday the 21st.It was a frustratingly lengthy process, especially for a magazine strived to be
up-to-date.
