Family Day! Celebrating Sparky: Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts June 25, 2022 Join the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum for an afternoon of activities and fun for all ages!
Our new exhibit Celebrating Sparky: Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts honors the life and career of Schulz and marks the centennial of his birth. We welcome you to join us on June 25 from 1-5 pm for a reception including a curator tour of the exhibition, activities for kids, a cartooning workshop taught by the Schulz Museum, and Snoopy’s favorite: root beer and chocolate chip cookies!
Opening reception: STILL... Racism in America May 21, 2022 We are honored to welcome cartoonist Barbara Brandon-Croft and curator Tara Nakashima Donahue to the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum for a program and reception for the opening of STILL: Racism in America – A Retrospective in Cartoons.

7 pm – 8 pm: Program with Barbara Brandon-Croft and Tara Nakashima Donahue in conversation with Caitlin McGurk in the Schulz Lecture Hall

Virtual Symposium: Global Comics and the Rise of Modern Manga March 30, 2022 Where does manga come from? What role did U.S. comics play in shaping modern manga? How did manga become a dominant force in global comics in recent decades? Join The Institute for Japanese Studies, University Libraries Area Studies and the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum as we explore these questions and more in the upcoming virtual symposium “Global Comics and the Rise of Modern Manga.” The discussions will be moderated by Dr. Jared Gardner, Professor of English and Director of the Humanities Collaboratory at The Ohio State University and Dr. Kinko Ito, Professor of Sociology at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. Exploring the development of manga in the twentieth century, three international experts in popular culture and comics studies will contest current narratives that treat manga as exotic or disconnected from its American and European counterparts.
"Dark Laughter Revisited" Exhibition Reception and Program March 5, 2022 Join us for a celebration of the exhibition Dark Laughter Revisited: The Life and Times of Ollie Harrington. Throughout his career, Oliver “Ollie” Harrington (1912-1995) used his voice and artistic talents as a cartoonist to attack racial, economic and social injustice with razor-sharp wit and insight. Speaking from the perspective of a cartoonist of color, his commentary chronicles many of the events and issues that defined the 20th century, from segregation and apartheid to war and poverty. This retrospective exhibition features work from the private collection of Dr. and Mrs. Walter O. Evans as well as the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum’s Oliver Harrington Collection, acquired from his widow, Dr. Helma Harrington.
