Work Study Student Assistant for Special Collections

Funding: Work Study

Work Schedule: Varies, Monday – Friday 9am-5pm; during Fall and Spring Semesters, 1-5pm

Hours per Week: 10-20

Hourly wage: $8.25

Responsibilities: 

Works 10-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm and Sundays, 1-5pm (Sunday hours during Fall and Spring semesters only)

Assist researchers and visitors with basic informational and directional assistance

Staff special collections reading room, including general security responsibilities

Search library catalog

Process catalogued materials

Assist with shelf-read project

Shelve and pull material for patrons

Process photocopy requests

Use independent judgment to complete inventories and data entry work

Answer phone, transfer calls, and take messages

Undertake other clerical tasks as needed

Works under the supervision of the Assistant Curator

Qualifications:

Strong public service skills

Attention to detail

Experience with basic computer programs (MS Word, Excel)

Ability to work independently, organizational skills, and close attention to detail

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Must be punctual and dependable

Must be available to work during summer semester

Student Assistant for Special Collections – Data Entry

Location: Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, Sullivant Hall –  1813 N. High St.

Work Schedule: Varies, Monday – Friday (9a-5p) and during AU & SP Semesters, Sunday (1-5p)

Hours per Week: 10-20 (20 or 28 maximum hours)

Hourly wage: $8.25

Responsibilities:

Minimum of 15 hours per week; flexible between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday; possible Sunday, 1-5pm

Enters data into the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum’s Art Database using Past Perfect Museum software

Enters data into Excel spreadsheets to create item level inventories

Works with original art for editorial cartoons, comic strips, comic books, graphic novels, sports cartoons, magazine cartoons

Handles original art according to archival practices

May be expected to staff reading room and assume clerical duties as needed

Answer phone, transfer calls, and take messages

Undertake other clerical tasks as needed

Works under the supervision of the Assistant Curator

 

Qualifications:

Possesses a good command of the rules of English grammar

Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail

Reliable with good attendance

Data entry experience preferred

Knowledge of art terminology, history and politics helpful but not necessary

Basic Excel experience

Available to work May and Summer semester
