     Thomas Nast illustrated many books during his career,
including the first edition of Hans Brinker, a story about a
poor Dutch boy seeking aid for his sick father. The book,
now considered a children’s classic, was very popular in
the late nineteenth century, with more than one hundred
editions published during the author's life.
