The Spirit of Will Eisner: A Retrospective

Will Eisner (1917-2005) grew up in a Bronx tenement during the Great Depression. He was a pioneer in the creation of comics during the Golden Age, achieving fame with his noir crime-fighting superhero, The Spirit. At one time or another, almost every comics-great worked with Will Eisner including Jules Feiffer, Jack Kirby, Wally Wood, Al Jaffee, Mike Ploog, and others. When The Spirit ceased publication, Will Eisner devoted himself to producing educational and instructional sequential art, a term he coined. Then in 1978, Will Eisner once again reinvented himself, and the medium with his graphic novel, A Contract with God - the first of over 20 graphic novels and textbooks.
