  • Cartoon Crossroads Columbus (CXC) Cartoon Crossroads Columbus (CXC) October 1, 2015 - October 3, 2015

    Announcing the first annual Cartoon Crossroads Columbus, or CXC, a celebration of the cartoon arts and their creators to be held Oct. 1-3, 2015. CXC is modeled on events like the Sundance or Tribeca film festivals, or the metropolitan comics events in Europe that offer a breadth of exhibits, artist talks, workshops, film screenings, performances, signings and more.

    Featured guests include: Kate Beaton* (Hark! A Vagrant, The Princess and the Pony), animation historian Jerry Beck**, Bill Griffith (Zippy the Pinhead), Françoise Mouly*** (RAW, The New Yorker, TOON BOOKS), Jeff Smith (Bone), Art Spiegelman*** (MAUS), and Craig Thompson (Blankets, Space Dumplins) More special guests will be announced in the coming weeks.

    “What makes this show unique is Columbus itself,” said Jeff Smith, CXC’s President & Artistic Director, “We have unprecedented levels of institutional support for cartooning and comics here, from the museums and schools to the Thurber House with its annual Graphic Novelist in Residence which recognizes outstanding new talent. This festival brings the whole city into the celebration.”

    SÕL-CON is FREE and open to the public. All events take place in Hale Hall on the Ohio State Campus.

    Latino and African American comics have been traditionally sidelined in the mainstream. During Hispanic Heritage Month, The Ohio State University Office of Diversity and Inclusion will host the first annual SÕL-CON: The Brown + Black Comix Expo 2015.     The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum in collaboration with Pop Culture Studies and Project Narrative at The Ohio State University are thrilled to welcome renowned cartoonist, writer, educator, and now podcaster JESSICA ABEL to campus on Tuesday, September 15th.

    Join us for an evening of discovery while Jessica discusses her comics career and latest work, OUT ON THE WIRE: THE STORYTELLING SECRETS OF THE NEW MASTERS OF RADIO.

    Following Jessica’s talk will be a Q&A and book signing.

    The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC) is hosting their annual convention in Columbus during Labor Day weekend. As part of this convention, the AAEC is sponsoring public presentations and panel discussions featuring prominent professionals in the field.

    All events are held at Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) , Canzani Center Auditorium, 60 Cleveland Avenue. These events are FREE and open to the public.

    The AAEC is a professional association concerned with promoting the interests of staff, freelance, and student editorial cartoonists in the United States.
